Presentation by Prof. Pim Cuijpers at the EU Event “Mental health and the pandemic: living, caring, acting!”
Prof. Pim Cuijpers, member of the RESPOND consortium and co-chair of the Technical Advisory Group on the mental health impacts of COVID-19 in the WHO European Region, has given a presentation entitled “Mental Health and the Pandemic: Understanding the Challenge” at the Mental health and the pandemic: living, caring, acting! event, which took place today.
Prof. Cuijpers highlighted the importance of public mental healthcare and emphasized that before COVID-19, mental health problems were already a substantial public health challenge. Though the impact of the pandemic on mental health is not clear yet, there is an increase in risk factors at the population level and high-risk groups have been identified. These include healthcare workers, migrants, older adults, people in conflict settings, children, young people, and women.
